Local Opportunities in the Asheville Community
- Ledgewood Ministry
Almost 100 children from the Ledgewood area are enrolled in this ministry. Each Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00, they meet for Bible study and fellowship. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the lives of children from another culture, as the majority of the children are Moldovan. Volunteers and donations are always welcome. Contact Elaine Bonner at 299-3433, extension 304 for more information.
- New City Christian School
New City is a private full day academic school and an after-school tutoring program in its first full year. Its focus is on children with significant learning gaps, particularly low income ones in the Livingston Street project area. There are six board members, one kindergarten teacher, one assistant, and many volunteers. This is a great ministry opportunity to school-aged kids and their families right here in Asheville. Many Trinity families are already involved. You can join us in prayer, time, and gifts. Coral Jeffries is the founder and contact person for questions.
- Habitat for Humanity
Asheville Habitat Site
Habitat is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to building simple, decent houses with community volunteers in partnership with qualified families currently living in inadequate housing. Volunteer teams or individuals are welcome Monday-Saturday for construction projects, and they also have opportunities at the Habitat store. Call (828) 251-5702 for more information.
- Asheville Buncombe Christian Community Ministry
ABCCM Founded in 1969 by eight Buncombe County Churches, ABCCM is now a cooperative ministry of more than 220 churches accomplishing what individual congregations cannot accomplish alone. There are many opportunities to serve others, from donating food and clothing to volunteer opportunities at the shelter. Currently, Trinity’s deacons collect for the food pantry the first Sunday of the month. Also, Linda Price organizes a team to prepare and serve at the men’s shelter the 4th Tuesday of each month. Call (828) 259-5300 for more information on how to volunteer for ABCCM.
- 30 Hour Famine
website Sponsored by World Vision, the 30 hour famine is an organized opportunity to have a very brief experience of hunger. Money raised by this event goes toward reducing famine in impoverished countries.
- Manna Food Bank
website
Their mission is to end hunger in Western North Carolina – “Save the food, feed the hungry.” There are many volunteer opportunities; please refer to their extensive website to learn how to help.
